Marcus "Iron Core" Delgado

Marcus Delgado is a former amateur MMA fighter turned fitness coach and gear expert. With a background in sports science, he focuses on how strength, conditioning, and recovery shape a martial artist’s performance. Marcus has tested and reviewed hundreds of gloves, pads, apparel, and training equipment, giving honest, practical advice to fighters and enthusiasts. He believes proper training gear and intelligent programming are just as vital as technique. Through his work, Marcus helps practitioners build stronger bodies, avoid injuries, and choose equipment that enhances their training experience, whether they train in a gym, dojo, or at home.

Expertise areas

  • MMA and combat sports gear: gloves, pads, shin guards, headgear, and training apparel
  • Strength and conditioning programming for martial artists across skill levels
  • Recovery protocols: injury prevention, mobility work, and training load management
  • Sports science principles applied to fight training and athletic performance
  • Home and garage gym setups for striking, grappling, and conditioning work
  • Honest gear reviews built on extended use, not first impressions from a single session
  • Helping beginners and intermediate practitioners train smarter and avoid the mistakes that lead to burnout or injury

How I work

I train in the gear I review. That means wearing it through actual sessions, sparring, pad work, bag rounds, and conditioning circuits, not just putting it on to take photos. I pay attention to how it holds up over weeks of use: whether the padding compresses and stops protecting, how the stitching handles repeated impact, whether the fit stays consistent once it's been soaked and dried a few times. For conditioning and recovery content I draw on my sports science background and my own experience competing and coaching, cross-checking what the research says against what I've seen work in the gym with real athletes. If a piece of gear has a sizing issue, a durability problem, or just doesn't perform the way the brand claims, that goes in the review. Fighters make purchasing decisions based on trust, and I take that seriously.
